Safety and privacy
Goings is about real places, so we built it to protect where you are, who sees what, and who you meet.
Location
We use your location only to show Links near you and to check that you’re within three miles of a Link when you join or post in it.
- 3 mi
- How close you need to be to join or post in a Link
- 100 m
- Rounding on the position your phone sends to join or post
- 1 km
- Rounding on a Link’s stored location
- 10 km
- Rounding on the area kept for nearby Link alerts
- Your exact location is never shown to anyone.
- Your location isn’t added to your profile, and we don’t build a history of where you’ve been.
- Links appear on the map at an approximate spot.
- Before upload, photos are re-encoded, and metadata, including location tags, is removed from photos and videos.
- A place on a Moment is a business or landmark you choose from Apple Maps, never where you are.
Who sees what
Everything on Goings has a small, specific audience.
- Moments
- Your friends, for 24 hours, or only your Close Friends if you choose. Only you see who viewed or liked them.
- Circles
- Only members. Circles are invite-only and never show up in search.
- Messages
- Only the people in the conversation. Staff can read a message only if someone reports it.
- Link pages
- Anyone with the link. A Link’s web page shows its name, time and place, never moments, comments, who is there or exact locations. Organizers under 18 show as an initial.
- Recap links
- Anyone with the link, until you stop sharing. Your name, a few counts and up to 24 photos, never captions, comments, friends or locations.
Teens
Goings is for people 13 and older. We ask for your birthday when you sign up and don’t allow accounts for anyone under 13. If you’re 13 to 17, a parent or guardian has to be okay with you using Goings.
- Your birthday, exact location and email address are never shown to other users.
- If we learn an account belongs to a child under 13, we delete it.
- Parents and guardians can email us at [email protected] to have a child’s account removed.
Reporting and blocking
You can report people, posts, comments, messages and Links from the menu, and block anyone. Reports are reviewed by our staff. If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.
When rules are broken or someone could be harmed, we can remove content, limit features, suspend or ban accounts, or end a Link, without notice when safety requires it. If you think we got it wrong, email [email protected] and we’ll take another look.
Meeting up
Goings helps you find real events and the people around them. We don’t organize, host or check events, venues or the people who attend, and a verified mark doesn’t make an event safe. Use good judgment:
- Meet in public places.
- Tell a friend where you’re going.
- Leave if something feels off.
- Follow the law and the venue’s rules.
- Never use your phone while driving.
Your data
We don’t sell your personal information and we don’t show ads. There are no advertising or analytics tools in the app, and you can delete your account from Settings whenever you want.
