Privacy Policy

Effective October 18, 2026

Goings is an iPhone app for finding what’s happening around you, showing up, and sharing it with the people who are there. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who can see it, and what you can do about it. Goings is run by Goings Social (“we” and “us”). Questions go to [email protected].

The short version

  • We collect what we need to run Goings: your account details, what you post, and your approximate location when you ask Goings to use it.
  • We don’t sell your personal information and we don’t show ads. There are no advertising or analytics tools in the app.
  • Your birthday is private. We use it only to check that you’re 13 or older.
  • Your exact location is never shown to anyone. Links appear on the map at an approximate spot, and the position your phone sends to join or post is rounded to about a city block.
  • You can delete your account from Settings whenever you want.

1. What we collect

Account information

Your email address, password, username, display name and birthday. Your password is handled by our sign-in provider, which stores only a secure hash. We never see it. Your birthday is kept in a private record. You can also add a profile photo, a bio, a website link and your interests.

What you post and do

The photos, videos and text you post, your comments and reactions, Links you create, people you follow or block, people you mention, Duo pairings, messages you send (including photos, videos, replies, reactions, edits and deletions), reports you file, and verification requests (the reason and links you give us). If you customize your page, we store the colors and banner photo you chose, and which badges you decided to show. We also remember when you last opened What’s new, so we can show a dot when there’s something you haven’t seen.

Moments, Circles and places

The Moments you share (a photo, short video or text, with an optional caption and place), who you add to Close Friends, who may reply to your Moments, and the likes and views on your Moments. The Circles you create or join, your role in them, and what you post in them: messages, photos and videos, shared memories and plans with your answers. Places you save with Want to go. A place on a Moment is a business or landmark you pick from Apple Maps (its name, kind and town), never where you are. We also store your time zone so the three-a-day limit resets at your midnight.

Location

If you allow it, Goings uses your phone’s location to show Links near you and to check that you’re within three miles of a Link before you join or post. The position sent to our servers for those checks is rounded to about 100 meters. We don’t add it to your profile and we don’t build a history of where you’ve been.

If you turn on nearby Link alerts, we also store a coarse area, rounded to about 10 kilometers, next to your notification token so we know which alerts to send. When someone creates a Link, its location is stored rounded to about 1 kilometer.

Notifications

If you turn notifications on, we store a token from Apple that identifies your device for push, along with your choices for message alerts and nearby Link alerts.

What you look at

We note which posts you view and for how long. We use that to rank popular moments, and it’s deleted with your account.

Technical information

Our hosting providers keep standard server logs, which include IP addresses and basic request details, for security and abuse prevention. Your sign-in session is stored in the Keychain on your iPhone.

Photos and videos

Before upload we re-encode photos and remove metadata, including location tags, from photos and videos. The camera and microphone are used only while you’re recording in the app. Goings reads only the photos you choose from your library.

We don’t collect your contacts, your advertising identifier, health data or payment information.

2. How we use it

  • To run Goings: create your account, show you Links near you, let you post, message and follow people, and send the notifications you turned on.
  • To email you a six-digit code when you sign up or sign in.
  • To rank what you see, using likes, comments, how long people look at a post, how recent it is, and how close it is.
  • To keep Goings safe: enforce the 13-and-up rule and the three-mile rule, review reports, and act on content or accounts that break our Terms.
  • To fix problems and answer your questions.
  • To follow the law.

We don’t use your information for advertising, and we don’t sell it.

3. Who can see what

  • Only you: your email, your birthday, your exact location and your settings.
  • Other Goings users who are signed in: your display name, username, photo, bio, the colors and banner you chose for your page, the badges you chose to show, verified status, who you follow and who follows you, and your posts and Links. People you’ve blocked, and people who’ve blocked you, can’t see them. Some content from a Link that has ended is limited to the people who attended.
  • Your friends (people you follow who follow you back): the Moments you share with them, for 24 hours, or only your Close Friends if you choose. A Moment you keep on your profile stays there for the same people. Your Close Friends list is private, even from the people on it. Only you see who viewed or liked your Moments. If you tap Want to go on a friend’s Moment, that friend sees that you did.
  • The people in a conversation: your messages, the photos and videos you send, when you’re typing, and when you’ve seen their messages. Our staff can read a message only if someone reports it.
  • The members of a Circle: what you post there, your Circle Moments, the memories and plans you add, and that you’re a member. New members see messages from when they joined. Circles never show up in search.
  • Anyone with a Link’s web address: every Link has a web page that anyone with its link or QR code can open, signed in or not. It shows the Link’s name, category, description, place, time, how many people and moments there are, the organizer’s name and username, and the Link’s cover photo. If the organizer is an adult, their profile photo appears too; an organizer under 18 shows as an initial instead. It never shows moments, comments, who is there, or exact locations. The organizer can turn a Link’s page off at any time, and a hidden or removed Link has no page.
  • On your own phone: if you turn on the Lock Screen card in Settings, the name and place of a Link you’ve joined appear on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island while it’s live, so anyone who can see your Lock Screen can see them. The “Share your night” card is made on your phone from your own photos, and goes nowhere until you choose where to send it.
  • Anyone with a link you create: if you share a month or year from Memories, anyone who has the link, signed in or not, can see your display name, username, avatar, a few counts and up to 24 photos from that period, until you stop sharing. It never includes captions, comments, friends, event names or locations.

A small number of moderators and administrators can see reported content and manage accounts. Their access is limited to what that job needs, and what they do is logged.

4. Who we share it with

We use a few companies to run Goings. They may use your information only to provide their service to us.

  • Supabase hosts our database, sign-in and server functions.
  • Cloudflare stores the photos and videos you upload (R2). Files are private and opened only through links that expire within minutes.
  • Apple delivers push notifications, provides the map tiles in Explore through Apple Maps, and runs the App Store.
  • An email delivery provider sends sign-in codes. It receives your email address and the code.
  • Vercel hosts this website.
  • Resend keeps our email list and sends the emails on it. It receives the email address you give us on the list page.

We may disclose information if the law or a valid legal process requires it, or if we believe it’s necessary to protect someone’s safety or to enforce our Terms. If Goings is ever sold or merged, your information may move to the new owner, and this policy would continue to apply to it unless we tell you about a change.

We don’t sell personal information, and we don’t share it for advertising across other companies’ apps or sites.

5. How long we keep it, and deleting your account

We keep your information while your account exists. To delete it, open Settings and choose Delete account. That permanently removes your profile, moments, photos, videos, the messages you sent, your birthday record, your notification token and your viewing history, and your uploaded files are deleted from storage. Any shared recap links stop working.

  • Moments leave your friends’ view after 24 hours and stay in your private Archive until you delete them. Deleting a Moment removes it everywhere.
  • Links you created stay for the people who attended, with an anonymous creator.
  • Messages other people sent you stay in their conversations.
  • We may keep limited records we need for safety and legal reasons, such as reports, moderation actions and a note that a deletion happened.
  • Copies in routine backups are overwritten over time.
  • We can’t take back something another person already saved or screenshotted.

6. Your choices and rights

  • Edit your profile any time in Settings.
  • Turn location, camera, microphone, photos and notifications on or off in iOS Settings. Goings still works for browsing without location.
  • Choose which notifications you get in Settings → Notifications.
  • Block or report people and content from the menu on any profile, moment or comment.
  • Stop sharing a month or year link from the share screen.
  • If you organize a Link, turn its public link page off from the Link’s share screen. Turn the Lock Screen card off in Settings, or remove it for one Link from that Link’s menu.
  • Delete your account in Settings.

Depending on where you live, such as California, Texas, other U.S. states, the UK or the EU, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, get a copy, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it. Email [email protected] from the address on your account and we’ll respond within the time the law requires. We won’t treat you differently for using these rights. You can also ask someone to make a request for you, and we’ll check that they’re authorized. Because we don’t sell personal information or share it for cross-context advertising, there’s nothing to opt out of.

7. Teens and children

Goings is for people 13 and older. We ask for your birthday when you sign up and we don’t allow accounts for anyone under 13. If we learn that an account belongs to a child under 13, we’ll delete it. If you’re a parent or guardian and think your child under 13 has an account, email us and we’ll remove it.

If you’re 13 to 17, make sure a parent or guardian is okay with you using Goings. Other users can see what you post, so think before you share, use block and report whenever something feels wrong, and be careful about meeting people in person. Your birthday, exact location and email are never shown to other users.

8. Security

We protect your information with encryption in transit, passwords stored only as hashes, access rules in the database that limit who can read what, your session kept in the iPhone Keychain, and role-based staff access that is logged. No service is perfectly secure. If you find a problem, please tell us at [email protected].

9. Where data is processed

Our providers process data in the United States and in other countries where they operate. If you use Goings from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and handled in those places.

10. This website

This website doesn’t use cookies, advertising tools or analytics. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs. The shared recap page loads photos, and a Link’s page loads its cover, through temporary links that expire. Link pages ask search engines not to list them, and a Link’s preview image can stay in other apps’ caches for up to an hour after an organizer turns its page off.

Our email list

If you join our email list at flareme.xyz/list, we collect only the email address you enter. It isn’t connected to a Goings account. We use it to send you news and updates about Goings, and we may send one welcome email when you join. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also email us to be removed. We keep your address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

If we make a material change, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when this policy was last updated.
